Vardim Kirklar kapisina
Baktim cennet yapisina
Tapmisam Hak kapisina
Evvel Allah ahir Allah
Dönemem estagfurullah
Bendeyim Allah eyvallah
Imanim amentu billah
Pir elinden içtim dolu
Ögrendim erkâni yolu
Emnuyette mümin kulu
DAVUT SULÂR canlar cani
Mevlana Mahmud Hayrani
Pirimdir Veysel Karani
Here's my hackneed translation:
I arrived through many doors
And gazed upon the Source of Paradise,
I am to worship at the door of Truth.
Allah is First, Allah is Last
I am turning around His Mercy, please forgive me Allah.
I am a slave of Allah's, yes Allah (Eyvallah)
My faith rests with Allah.
I drank my fill from the Hand of my Teacher (Pir)
I learned from the Path of Power,
A mortal believer is saved.
The soul of Davut Sulari's heart
belongs to his master Mahmut Hayrani
who came from his Pir, Veysel Qurani.
... there is so much here! This song is by Davut Sulari, who is or was, a travelling sufi musician and poet who wandered with his horse around 20th Turkey telling stories, singing songs and teaching people the ways of Sufism. Sufism is the school of purifying one's heart and mind in order to prepare it for understanding Truth. One of the things here is that Truth is understood in a different sense than simplistic relgious terms, so part of the education of people begins with loosening the bonds of linear thought.
A Pir is the head of a Sufi Order, generally the fountainhead where the flavor of the teaching of that particular group comes from.
